How to Inspect RV Roof for Leaks…?

Water damage to RV roof can cost thousands of dollars in terms of RV repairs.  Maintenance to fix RV roof leaks is simple. Get on to the roof, apply roof sealant e.g., Liquid Roof and you are finished. Unfortunately things are not that simple enough. When a water leak has developed, it can go unnoticed until it has done considerable damage.

The best way to avoid costly repairs is to have a preventive maintenance program.

Inspect the roof – First visually inspect the roof seams, flashings, soft areas and damaged caulking. The weak spots found should be immediately repaired with Liquid RV Roof.

Check Inlets – Look for soft spots, discoloration, or wrinkles on the walls, especially around doors, windows, slide-outs, and vents.

Inspect inside cabinets – Pay due attention to the areas where the top inside corners of the cupboards come across with the ceiling.

Check the cab-over – This area is exposed to water damage in most old Class C campers. Make sure you see underneath the mattress for any soft spots.

Checks for the delamination – Most RV owners don’t recognize any sign of RV delamination until it’s too late. Fiberglass RV walls can look fine on the outside while real damage is done inside which remains unseen. The fiberglass should be flat and smooth. If you notice any waves, bubbles, or creases, press them with your finger. If the area feels soft, you have probably identified RV sidewall delamination.

Don’t forget storage – How one can forget the RV storage..! Examine the insides of the RV exterior storage sections for signs of water damage.
Inspecting RV for leaks is only one part of the job; the other part is to fix RV roof leaks using Liquid RV Roof. Liquid RV Roof can be used to patch the damaged areas or it can be used to apply on the entire roof. Just make sure you follow product manual and have Liquid Roof that is compatible to use with your RV roof material.
